Marketing

Spot suspicious orders and decide yourself.

Some partners order through a second customer account, through family members or with their own PayPal address and collect commission for it. The fraud check compares every referred order with the partner’s data and flags what they share. It books nothing back: whether it is fraud, you decide under Marketing → Fraud check.

Marketing → Affiliate program → side menu Marketing → Fraud check

What is checked

Which five checks are there?

The card Marketing · Fraud check in the configuration has five switches, all on by default. The order is compared with the partner’s customer account including all of its addresses and with the PayPal address the partner receives payouts at. Every check that hits is listed as a reason on the case.

  • Suspicion: email address is the PayPal address of the partner (reason “PayPal address”): the order comes from the address the partner gets the commission paid out to.

  • Suspicion: same address as the partner (reason “Same address”): the billing or shipping address of the order is an address of the partner, compared by street, house number, postcode and country. “Lindenstr. 12” and “Lindenstraße 12” count as the same.

  • Suspicion: same last name and same postcode (reason “Last name + postcode”): for example a family member or a second customer account in the same town.

  • Suspicion: same phone number (reason “Same phone number”): the last nine digits are compared, so “+49 251 123456” and “0251 123456” count as the same.

  • Suspicion: same first and last name (reason “Same name”): the buyer has the partner’s name, no matter where the order is shipped, an office delivery included.

When does the plugin check an order?

The check runs during the commission sync, the moment a referred order gets its commission. Orders already booked before the checks were switched on are not checked afterwards.

  • Only orders for which the partner gets commission above €0.00 on the first level are checked.
  • Own orders of the partner, through their customer account or as a guest with their email address, are no suspicion. The setting “Partners receive commission for their own orders” in the chapter Commission covers them.
  • Each order gets at most one case, with all reasons that apply.
  • Only switched-on checks count; each can be switched off on its own.

Finding suspected cases

The “Fraud check” list

Under Marketing → Fraud check you find the suspected cases, latest order first. The list starts filtered to “Open”, so you see at once what still needs a decision. Search covers order number, partner, partner code and customer.

  • Order opens the case, Ordered at gives date and time of the order.

  • Partner opens the partner, Customer names the buyer.

  • Reasons: the first reason as a chip, more as “+1”. In the example order 10210 has the same address and also the last name and postcode of the partner.

  • Commission: the partner’s commission from this order that is at stake.

  • State: “Open”, “No fraud” or “Fraud attempt”. The column menu adds “Detected at”.

  • The filter on the right shows cases by state, partner and reason. Remove “Open” to see all decided cases as well.

Where open cases also show up

So that no case is left lying around, the affiliate program points to open suspected cases in three more places, each with a link into the fraud check.

  • Dashboard: the “Tasks” card shows how many suspected cases are open, with a link to the fraud check.

  • Partner: below the tabs of the detail page it says “1 open suspicion in the fraud check.” Go to the fraud check opens the list with this partner’s open cases.

  • Order: in the order’s “Affiliate program” tab the “Commissions” card shows “Open suspicion in the fraud check.” with Check the suspicion.

Deciding

Checking a suspected case

The detail page puts partner and order side by side. You see at a glance whether the same person ordered or whether it is a harmless overlap, such as a colleague who has the order sent to the same company address.

  • Reasons: which checks hit, each with an explanation.

  • Comparison: name, last name + postcode, email address, billing and shipping address, phone and PayPal address of the payout, on the left from the partner’s customer account, on the right from the order. “same” marks what matches. In the example “Lindenstraße 12” and “Lindenstr. 12” are the same address.

  • Commission: partner, order, the commission and its State: “Available”, “Partly redeemed” or “Redeemed”. It shows whether the partner has already used it.

  • At the top right are the two decisions No fraud and Fraud attempt. A decision is final.

“No fraud”: the case is closed

If the overlap is harmless, “No fraud” closes the case. The commission stays as it is.

  1. 1Click No fraud at the top right.

  2. 2If needed, enter an Internal reason. Only your team sees it, in the history of the case.

  3. 3Click Mark as done.

“Fraud attempt”: the commission is balanced

“Fraud attempt” creates a negative manual booking for the full commission of the order. The commission itself stays; this keeps it clear what was calculated and what was balanced. Example: order 10210 earned mira.moves €7.92 commission. After “Fraud attempt” a booking of -€7.92 stands next to it, and the partner’s balance drops by €7.92.

  1. 1Click Fraud attempt at the top right.

  2. 2The window says what happens: the commission stays, a negative manual booking reduces the balance.

  3. 3Check the Text for the partner, by default “Correction of order #10210”. The partner sees it with the booking in their partner area.

  4. 4If needed, enter an Internal reason.

  5. 5Click Mark as fraud attempt.

After the decision: state and history

A decided case shows its state in the title and has no decision buttons any more. The history records who decided what and when.

  • History: time, decision, user, internal reason and effect, for “Fraud attempt” for example “Negative booking of -€7.92”, for “No fraud” “Commission unchanged”.

  • If another user has decided the case in the meantime, the page says so and loads the new state; nothing is ever booked twice.

Common questions

Does the fraud check book commission back automatically?

No. It only flags an order as a suspected case. The commission runs on as usual until you decide “Fraud attempt” under Marketing, Fraud check. Only then is a negative booking for the full commission created.

Does the partner see that they are suspected?

No. While a case is open the partner sees no hint. After “Fraud attempt” they see the negative booking with the text you entered in the window.

What happens if the partner has already redeemed the commission?

The negative booking is still created and reduces their balance by the full commission. Beforehand, the Commission card on the case shows whether the commission is available, partly or fully redeemed.

Can I undo a decision?

No, a decision is final. Who decided what and when is in the history of the case together with the internal reason. A correction is possible through a manual booking on the partner.

Are the partner’s own orders flagged as fraud?

No. Own orders through their customer account or as a guest with their email address are no suspicion. Whether they earn commission is set by “Partners receive commission for their own orders”.

Can I switch off single checks?

Yes. Each of the five checks has its own switch in the configuration card Marketing, Fraud check; all are on by default. The setting applies per sales channel.

Does the fraud check also detect click fraud and cookie stuffing?

Click fraud does not pay off here: commission only comes from orders that have reached the waiting time and the order status, clicks alone earn nothing, and the plugin offsets cancellations. Cookie stuffing, a cookie planted without a real recommendation, is not detected by the check. The switch “Assign new customers only” limits the damage, and by default no other partner can poach assigned customers. Click tracking shows which pages the clicks come from.
